When preparing food, it is important to remember that everyone starts with something. I don't know anyone who was born with a wooden spoon and trained for it. There is a lot to learn to be a good cook and there is always room for improvement. But not only do you have to start from the basics when it comes to cooking, you also have to start from scratch when learning to cook new dishes like Chinese, Indian, Thai or Indian cuisine.
This usually means that at any point in your cooking cycle, there may be someone who cooks better and/or worse than you. Be prepared that when it comes to cooking, there are better bad days. There are many people who cook for different reasons. Some cook to eat and survive, and some cook because they genuinely enjoy the process of cooking. Some people cook out of emotional trauma and others out of boredom. Whether you cook or cook, you need to start with the basics.
The good news is that once you learn the basics of cooking, you probably won't need to learn them again. This means that you can always develop and improve your cooking skills. As you discover new recipes and hone your cooking skills and talents, you'll find that cooking your own meals from scratch is far more rewarding than pre-packaged meals off the shelves of your local supermarket.

Ingredients and Spices for Red Velvet Cake:
- a cake
- 1/2 cup/113 g butter, room temperature, plus 2 tablespoons for frying
- 3 tablespoons/22 grams cocoa powder, divided
- 1 1/2 cups / 300 g granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons/10 ml vanilla
- 2 tbsp/30 ml red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon/5 grams of baking soda
- 2 1/2 cups/320 g sifted flour
- 1 cup/236 mL whole buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon/15 ml vinegar
- layer
- 5 glasses of sifted powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons of buttermilk
- 2 packs of unsalted butter
Instructions for making a red velvet cake.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare three 9-inch cake pans, lightly grease and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sifted cocoa powder, brush and discard excess cocoa. (You can only use 2 forms, please note below.)
- Beat the butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time and beat vigorously until each egg is incorporated. Mix with vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, make a paste of the remaining 2 tablespoons of chocolate and food coloring. Mix with the oil mixture. (1 teaspoon is enough for me)
- Sift the remaining dry ingredients. Also, add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the oil mixture in 2 folds. Stir the vinegar into the buttermilk mixture last before adding it to the batter. Mix until combined.
- Divide the dough between 3 molds and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack. (Note: I used 2 pans and cooked for 30 minutes.)
- To assemble, remove 1 cake from pan and place flat side on serving plate. Pour about 1 cup of frosting onto the cake and spread evenly over the surface with a flat spatula. Remove the second cake from the pan. Place the flat side on top of the first layer. Use the remaining frosting to brush the top and sides of the cake.
- Frosting: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, add the butter. Stir for a minute. Add sugar one cup at a time. Whisk each addition until smooth, scraping down the sides of the bowl. Run the blender on high for 20 seconds. Repeat with each addition. If necessary, add milk and then vanilla on low speed. Beat on high speed for another 20 seconds.
